The design, construction, and operation of the transportation sector in the state supports 163,329 jobs throughout the economy. This includes direct jobs for work performed, indirect jobs supported by supplier industries, and induced employment when workers spend their wages for other goods and services.
Direct employment includes 4,500 jobs to build and improve transportation infrastructure, plus an additional 46,132 jobs to support system operations and freight transportation.
These workers, employed by 13,747 businesses and agencies, earn over $3 billion per year in wages.

79% of workers in the state commute by driving, with 69% driving alone.

The value of freight shipments to and from businesses in Utah will grow from $154 billion in 2023 to $318 billion in 2050, an increase of 106 percent.
